Web Development Podcasts
I keep promising to add new episodes to my podcast, and I apologize to those of you who are waiting. My podcast is about introductory web development, geared towards beginners who don't know where to start. With that in mind, I listen to a lot of podcasts and found a few to be especially valuable in the "introductory" space (rather than some of those newsy ones). So for those of you looking for how-to, beginner information on web development (and to keep you busy while I work up some more of my own episodes), here are a list of podcasts that got me started.
Comment on any extras you found valuable. I think the most critical to getting you started are the Harvard series and Security Now! (especially the "how the internet works" series).
- Linux & Security
- Linux Reality
- Security Now! -- also includes a very good series on "how the internet works," which is a must-know if you're new to web development.
- PHP/MySQL
- Harvard's Computer Science E-75: Building Dynamic Websites Screencast. -- This one is especially valuable, and covers the most ground. I'd go so far as to say it's got the same scope as my own podcast, and kills mine in content!
- Drupal
- Lullabot
- Drupal Videos (I can't find the URL, look for "Drupal Videos" under iTunes and download the one with the description "a mashup of drupal video podcasts". Does anyone know how to get the feed URL of a podcast in iTunes?)
- Freelancing
- FreelanceSwitch
