Sunny markets it as a stationary cardio trainer in the AssaultRunner and TrueForm Trainer tier, not as a desk walking pad. The deck curve drives the belt (step toward the front to accelerate, toward the center to decelerate) and the 8-level magnetic-resistance dial controls drag. The uprights bolt on and the LCD only shows stats, but the tension-control knob and its wire ride the right upright, so the "skip the handrails at assembly" workaround that converts the SB Fitness CT250 into an under-desk pad costs you resistance adjustment here, and Sunny's manual doesn't say where resistance rests once the wire is disconnected. Tall steel frame (about 59" H), deep footprint (about 67.7" D), 157 lb unit weight. If you found it in Amazon's "manual treadmill" results while shopping for a desk pad, that is the answer to "why not this one?"

Sunny's product page and the Amazon listing both claim "superior shock absorption" to reduce joint stress. Neither names the mechanism or publishes a cushioning spec, so this is a marketing claim rather than a measured one.
Viability
Score: 4. Sunny's user manual has you bolt each upright tube to the main frame with five bolts (pp4-5), so leaving them off is plausible. The LCD shows time, speed, distance, calories, pace and pulse and controls nothing, so losing it doesn't count. The Tension Control Knob (No. 15) is what you'd give up: it and its wire ride the right upright, and the wire connects to the tension wire in the frame as you mount that upright (p5). With the rails off there's no way to adjust resistance, and the manual doesn't say where resistance rests with the wire disconnected. It does tell you to set the knob to level 8, the highest, before connecting the wire (p5). That may hint the mechanism sits at hard resistance when the wire is free, but this is an inference, not something the manual states.
Separately, the deck sits 11.4" to 16.5" off the floor, so a desk over it has to rise at least 11.4" further above your usual standing height. Sunny doesn't market the SF-X7110 for desk use.
App
Connects over Bluetooth to the free SunnyFit app, which tracks workouts and offers trainer-led sessions and scenic routes with no membership fee. That connection is what the "Smart" in the product name refers to. The handrail LCD shows time, calories, speed, distance, pace and pulse on its own.
